Are you curious what it costs to live in Tucson Arizona?

Cost of Housing

Our median home price is $285,000, which is 78% lower than the median home price in California. Although our home prices have gone up 15% in the past year, interest rates are still at an all time low. So what would your monthly mortgage payment look like? Let's say you're roughly putting 10% down and have good credit. You're looking to pay around $1,600 a month on your mortgage.

Now let's say you're looking to rent for a little bit. Your average rent for an apartment is around $1000. If you're looking to get into a single-family home for a rental, you're looking to pay around $1,600 or so.

Cost of Utilities

This is all based off of the size of your home and your usage of your utilities. But for this example, we're going to base it off of a single-family home around 2,000 square feet. Your average gas bill would be around $20 to $30 a month. Your average water bill would be around $140 to $250 average, depending on how much you use and water if you have plants.

Your average electric bill during the winter would be around $100, and during the summertime when it's hot and you're using your AC, would be around $200. Your internet and cable averaging around $50 to $100 a month. And again, this is based off your provider and who you choose to write a contract.

Cost of Transportation

Although some places in Tucson are ideal for living a car-less life, I would recommend having a vehicle to get around the greater Tucson area. The average cost of car insurance in Tucson is around $1,162 compared to California at $1,868. And speaking of cars, the average gas price is around $2.05 per gallon and California averaging $3.35 per gallon.

Cost of Eating Out

If you're looking to go out for a nice date night for two that includes drinks, apps and an entree, you're probably going to be spending around $70 to $100. Or maybe if you're looking for a more low key night, like a pizza night, you can definitely feed two people for under $40. The great thing about Tucson is there’s so many amazing food options for every price point that they will not disappoint.

Cost of Groceries

If you're shopping for two people, you're probably going to be spending around $400 a month on groceries. Now of course this all depends and can increase or decrease on where you're shopping and Tucson is actually 6% lower than the national average of the cost of groceries.

Taxes

Now not the most interesting part, but let's talk taxes. Tucson sales tax is currently at 8.7%, which includes state, county and city sales tax. Now for income taxes, Arizona's state income tax has rates based on income brackets. The rates range from 2.59% to 4.5%, with higher brackets paying the higher rates.

And one last interesting fact about Tucson is that it's ranked 79th out of 100 of affordable places to live in the United States.
